The meeting discussed trade with France, Germany, Spain, Tunisia, Cambodia, Vietnam, the United Arab Republic and the formation of an Irish Chamber of Commerce in the USA.

The article states that one thousand two hundred employees at the Dublin tobacco firm Player's and Wills have received a wage increase. 'The increase is 22/6 a week for men, and 12/6 for women and is retrospective to October 9 last'.

Newsclipping from the 'Irish Times', 28 October 1961, containing an article entitled 'Bakeries will not increase earlier offer'. The article refers to the pay increases which were offered to workers in the Dublin bakery trade. It states that the employers are not willing to advance on their previous offer. The pay demands put forward by the union are outlined in detail. 'They sought an increase of 30s a week for adult males of all classes, with pro rata increases for adult women workers and juveniles'. The Irish Women Workers' Union is listed as one of the unions involved in the negotiations.

Memorandum from the Department of Finance to the Government, 13 November 1961, relating to reports from the Civil Service Arbitration Board. It refers in particular to pay claims which were submitted by the following groups: Executive and Higher Executive Officers; Junior Clerks in the Houses of the Oireachtas and Seed Analysts in the Department of Agriculture. Scales of pay and proposed increases are given for each grade. 'Scale A applies to a woman or an unmarried man whose remuneration is governed by differentiation on a marriage basis; Scale B applies to a married man or an unmarried man whose remuneration is not governed by differentiation on a marriage basis'.

Memorandum from the Department of Industry and Commerce for the Government, 16 March 1961, relating to the report and accounts of An Foras Tionscoil, the body responsible for the administration of industrial grants. The report is attached to the memorandum. Paragraph 6 refers to estimated employment in respect of projects undertaken by the Industrial Development Authority. 'Estimated Employment: Male 1704 and Female 1114'.

Hand-written note from the Department of the Taoiseach, 23 March 1961, outlining a conversation which took place between a representative of the Department and a member of staff at the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children [ISPCC]. 'Miss Goudling rang. She stated that the Society had not finally settled patronage difficulty'.

Copy letter from the Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children, Molesworth Street, Dublin, recipient unknown, March 1961, requesting donations and outlining the organisation's aims. 'We need this one great effort to enable the Irish Society, whose aim is the salvation of the unhappy children of today, to continue its work. Without your help, these children may become the juvenile delinquents of tomorrow'. Lady Killanin is named as the Society's President.

The article refers to a speech given by the Bishop of Galway at the annual dinner of the Presentation Covent Schools. It states that Miss Mary Byrne, president of the Union presided over events. Mrs M Browne and Mrs E Mullen are also spoke at the event.

Note outlining an unofficial reply to press inquiries relating to Miss Maire MacEntee, Department of External Affairs. 'Reports that Miss Maire MacEntee of the Department of External Affairs is on UN business in Elizabethville are not correct. Miss MacEntee has been on annual leave from the Department and if she is in Elizabethville her visit is purely a private one'.
