Newsclipping from the 'Irish Press', 5 December 1961, containing an article entitled 'Dr O'Brien charges Britain, Rhodesia'. The article refers to the resignation of the United Nations representative in the Congo, Dr Conor Cruise O'Brien. He accused the British and French Governments of thwarting the United Nations efforts in the area. He also refers to his private life and his plans to marry his former colleague, Miss Marie MacEntee. 'Dr O'Brien told United Press International that, while his first marriage was a civil ceremony, his second will be within the Catholic Church. He said that ecclesiastical authorities had agreed to this'.

Letter from MT Dwyer, United Enterprises Limited, Manchester, England, to the Taoiseach, Mr Sean Lemass, 3 December 1961, relating to the resignation of two members of the Department of External Affairs. Dwyer condemns the manner in which the matter was reported in the Press. 'The garbled versions in today's press here, of the sudden departures of Mr Conor Cruise O'Brien and Miss MacEntee from Irish State affairs has caused grave perturbation to the writer and my Co-Directors. Neither of the above mentioned people are even remotely known to us in a personal way'.
