Description: |
Memorandum issued by the Minister for Finance for circulation to the Executive Council, 28 October 1931, on the subject of Primary Teachers' Salaries. The memorandum gives details of proposed salary reductions for men and women. A reduction of 11% is recommended for women and 7% for men. 'The fact that the percentage reduction in the case of women was higher than that proposed for men was due to the desire of the committee to round down the basic scale for women ... the feeling that on general grounds the women, might, if anything, be required to bear a somewhat heavier cut than the men'. The memorandum include tables giving the salaries for male and female teachers on different scales and years of service. |
