Record 13921 from 'Women in 20th-century Ireland – 1922-1966: sources from the Department of the Taoiseach database'
Description:

Memorandum from the Office of Public Works, 23 July 1943, regarding the Government's failure to have Muckross House made available to the nation. The memorandum lists suitable uses for the house. The suggestion to use the house as a hostel for An Oige is dismissed as 'the Commissioners do not consider that they would be able to exercise sufficient or satisfactory control over the young people of both sexes who might be expected to lodge in the house'. References are also made to two local hotel owners, 'if any one of the present hotel proprietors such as Mrs Huggard or Mrs Ross were interested in Muckross House'. Other possible uses include a convalescent home or a retreat home for a religious order.

Record 13927 from 'Women in 20th-century Ireland – 1922-1966: sources from the Department of the Taoiseach database'
Description:

Note regarding the post of private secretary to the Taoiseach, 10 December 1958. The note debates the heading under which the post should appear in the Department's draft estimate 'as Miss Ni Cheallaigh, the Personal Secretary to the Taoiseach, is a Shorthand Typist, the entry "Personal Secretary to the Taoiseach" should be deleted from the Estimate and the number of Shorthand Typists should be shown as three, with a footnote indicating that one officer acts as Personal Secretary to the Taoiseach'. HOD dismisses this option because it would suggest that the appropriate grade for the post is that of Shorthand Typist.
