Newsclipping from the 'Irish Independent', 22 June 1948, containing an article entitled 'Minister on need for better milk'. This article refers to a statement which was made by the Minister for Health, Dr Browne, at the sixth annual meeting of the Irish Housewives' Association. 'The Minister said that his Department was investigating the possibility of using sterile containers for delivering milk and providing sterilised meals for children at central depots. It was hoped to consult shopkeepers with a view to attaining a higher standard of cleanliness in handling food generally'. The article also highlights the content of the Association's annual report. 'Among the specific suggestions made in the report to improve the status of women, the Association put forward: Equal pay for equal work, no dismissal of women on marriage, modification of the law of inheritance and improvement in conditions of work and pay of nurses and domestic servants'. |

The Guild's activities and fund-raising events included the provision of grocery vouchers, vegetables, oatmeal, fuel, and outdoor work. '23 garments were sent to victims of bombing in Dublin and Belfast. The material was given by Miss Bennett ...
