Memorandum from the Department of Education, on the indemnification of Managers of National Schools in respect of legal expenses, involving damages or costs, incurred by them in connection with the dismissal of teachers where such dismissal arises out of official decision by the Department, 22 December 1932. The memorandum refers in particular to the legal costs in connection with an action taken by Miss Nora Molloy, formerly assistant teacher in Lisduff National School. It is noted that 'the Manager was not to blame. This decision is clear from the official action: while teachers of the school were penalised and censured, no adverse comment was made on the manager's actions in the case'.

Copy letter from Seosamh O'Neill, Department of Education to the Department of Finance, 20 December 1932, relating to an action brought by Miss N Molloy against Canon Gallagher PP, and others, to recover damages for conspiracy to injure her and deprive her of the position of assistant teacher at Lisduff National School. The letter states that a 'further application has been received from Canon Gallagher requesting that the necessary steps be taken to indemnify him in the amount of his costs and expenses in the case'. Description:

Memorandum from the Department of Finance for circulation to the Executive Council, 5 April 1933, in relation to a proposed payment in respect of legal expenses to a primary school manager. The memorandum outlines the case. 'In 1930 a former teacher [Miss N Molloy] in Lisduff National School, County Mayo, took action for conspiracy against other teachers in which the Manager of the School was joined as a defendant. The Manager asked the Government to indemnify him in advance against the expenses in which he might be involved by the action'. The memorandum recommends that the Manager should seek assistance from his parish or from the Catholic Clerical School Managers' Association.
