Description: |
Letter from Helena Moloney [Molony], 226 North Circular Road, to Oscar Traynor, Minister for Defence, 1 February 1953, on the subject of funding for a veterans home or club and also on the importance of medals and decorations. The letter refers to a scheme started by Inghinidhe na hÉireann for the provision of school meals, 'Two poor National Schools were selected by a voluntary society, Inghinidhe na hÉireann, and with the enthusiastic help of the Rev Managers and teachers, we started providing hot cooked food ... until the Act was passed, when of course there was money to pay for the service'. She suggests that this method might be employed for veterans. 'If the project were initiated in this way it would be easier for the Government to take it over eventually'. She also advocates that holders of medals should wear them for a week at Easter time and at all official social functions. |
