Description: |
Draft memorandum from the Department of Finance, for the Government on the proposed commission on the status of women. Memorandum examines the problems and representations from women's organisations which need to be addressed by the proposed commission. Minister for Finance recognises that the consideration of the matter goes beyond the question of equal pay for equal work and includes issues realised by declarations made by the United Nations, the International Labour Office and the Council of Europe. The Minister concludes that the terms of reference of the commission should be 'to examine and report on the status of women in Irish Society, to make recommendations on the steps necessary to ensure the participation of women on equal terms with men in political, social and economic life of the country and to indicate the estimated cost and the implications generally of such recommendations'. |
