Description:

Report [in Irish] on services to the Gaeltacht, 4 October 1938. The report outlines the schemes which were administered by the Gaeltacht Services between 1935 and 1937. The schemes include rural industries, convent classes, industrial loans, marine product industries, housing and domestic instruction. A summary of the report is given [in English] on pages 40 to 45. 'The Gaeltacht Services Division pays the salaries of Instructresses in three Convents where industries are in operation ... At the close of the period under review, the Gaeltacht Services Division conducted twenty-four Knitting Industries, two Lace and Embroidery Industries, and one Weaving Industry ... in the case of the Lace and Embroidery Centres the Manageresses are responsible for both design and marketing'. The report includes photographs of Gaeltacht women at work in knitting and toymaking centres.

'The Minister would be glad to be informed whether the Taoiseach is prepared to appoint Miss Kettle to the vacant post, subject to the Civil Service Commissioners being satisfied as to her age, health and character. The Attorney-General had intimated his approval to an offer of the appointment being made to Miss Kettle'.
