Record 16207 from 'Women in 20th-century Ireland – 1922-1966: sources from the Department of the Taoiseach database'
Description:

Hand-written letter from Mrs Agnes Boyd, Newry, County Down, to Eamon de Valera, 25 November 1941, requesting the release of her daughter from prison. She outlines her daughter's case and refers to the plight of her grandchildren. 'I again apply to you for my youngest daughter Mrs O'Hagan, internee, Mountjoy Jail, to allow her out on parole for which she is willing to sign, or give any written undertaking as to her future behaviour. She is honest and truth itself, never goes back on her word. Her children are the sufferers, two eldest not strong, both are attending the Richmond Hospital ...The father has a tiny shop in Park Street, which one of these two girls must attend and neither are fit for it ... Their mother managed the shop and everything herself and I'm pleading for her six children, they certainly are not getting the food and care they would if their mother was at home
