Hand-written letter from Agnes Boyd, Newry, County Down, to Eamon de Valera, 16 December 1941, regarding the release of her daughter, Mrs O'Hagan, from Mountjoy Prison. Mrs Boyd states that her daughter wishes to be released, but not on parole. 'Please give the release my child wants, for the love of the child Jesus and I will pray for God and His Blessed Mother to watch over you and prosper your way'. An illustrated religious card and a hand-written letter from the prisoner's youngest children are attached to the letter. 'To Mrs Eamon de Valera, Please show this letter to your husband, Dear Sir, Please tell Santa Claus to take our mammy home to us for Xmas and we shall pray for you, Grainnia O'Hagan and Rory O'Hagan'.

Copy letter to Mrs Agnes Boyd, Newry, County Down, signature unclear, 1 January 1941, acknowledging receipt of her letter requesting the release of her daughter, Mrs O'Hagan, from Mountjoy Prison. The letter reminds Mrs Boyd that in her previous letters she had expressed her daughter's willingness to accept parole. The letter contains two extracts from her earlier correspondence. 'I again apply to you for my youngest daughter Mrs O'Hagan, internee, Mountjoy to allow her out on parole for which she is willing to sign, or give any written undertaking as to her future behaviour'.

'Dear Mrs Boyd, I received your letter asking for the release of Mrs O'Hagan. Mrs O'Hagan will be released immediately she gives an undertaking that thereafter she will cease from the activities which are prejudicial to good order and to the safety of the State'.

Draft letter to Mrs Agnes Boyd, Newry, County Down, from the Department of Justice, January 1942, outlining the conditions upon which her daughter may be released from Mountjoy Prison. 'In view of her activities prior to arrest it is not unreasonable to ask that Mrs O'Hagan should give a guarantee as to her behaviour on release. So long as she refuses she must be treated as one whose release from custody is prejudicial to the safety of the State'. Covering letter from the Office of the Minister for Justice, to the Private Secretary to the Taoiseach, 2 January 1942.

'She was told that she could obtain her release by giving a written undertaking as to her future behaviour but she refused. Owing to the illness of her daughter, Mrs O'Hagan was released on 14th October on one week's parole ... so long as she refuses to sign she must be treated as one whose release from custody is prejudicial to the safety of the State'.
