Description: |
Hand-written letter from Maire Ni Mhaicin, Old Cumann na mBan, Emmet Street, Dublin, to the Department of the Taoiseach, 8 March 1943, requesting the return of a typewriter which was seized by the Government subsequent to her nephew's internment at the Curragh Camp. 'In a recent interview with Senator Margaret Kennedy on my behalf, the Minister stated I can apply to the Court for it. But I fail to see why I should be put to such unnecessary expense'. She refers to the fact that her brother gave his life for Ireland. 'Surely my brother's sacrifice in Easter Week is worth at least the return of a typewriter? Trusting you will be kind enough to interfere in this matter'. |

Description: |
Hand-written letter from Maire Ni Mhaicin, Emmet Street, Dublin, to the Department of the Taoiseach, 27 June 1943, requesting the release of her nephew, Sean Magee, from the Curragh Camp. She refers to a letter which was written by her sister and to a statement made by Cardinal Mac Rory. 'I wish to endorse every word of my sister's letter to you. In fact I maintain, that ... my nephew, Sean Magee, has been interned on the mere whim of a policeman. And I ask you to see justice done him, even at the eleventh hour'. She also refers to two other prisoners. 'Now that the two Republican candidates, O'Kelly and Bohan, have been unconditionally released, I ask the same for him also'. |
