Hand-written letter to Eamon de Valera from Mrs McAndrew, North Strand, Dublin, 10 October 1943, regarding her husband, Peadar MacAindru, a prisoner at the Curragh Camp. She states that her husband is currently on parole for medical reasons. 'The purpose of his parole is for medical treatment for his eyes; one eye is almost blind and the other is badly affected'. The letter also outlines the family's poor financial circumstances and states that they cannot afford to pay an eye specialist. She asks the Taoiseach to help her. 'I am left with two children to support by my own labour and have no other source of income. You must realise that now when he is at home I am unable to pay the fee of an eye specialist ... I ask you as a very special favour to have him attended to'.

Hand-written letter from Bean Ui Liadall (Eimhir de Burca), Achill, County Mayo, to the Taoiseach, 10 January 1944, regarding the case of Mairtin Coyne, an internee, at the Curragh Camp. The letter outlines the contents of correspondence which Bean Ui Liadall received from another internee. 'My friend Mairtin Coyne in the internment camp is in a bad state of worry. His sister has developed TB in both lungs and so far has failed to get a bed in any sanatorium'. Bean Ui Liadall states that: 'I have done the only thing I can do. I have written to Dr Alice Barry of Peamount regarding a bed. I fear they are very scarce there as elsewhere'. She requests that Mairtin Coyne be released from the Curragh Camp so that he may visit his sick sister and organise a place for her at a suitable hospital.

Letter from Miss Maire Comerford, St Nessan, Sandyford, County Dublin, to Eamon de Valera, 1 February 1945, enclosing a statement made by James Crofton outlining the inhumane conditions in Portlaoghise [Portlaois] Jail. Miss Comerford comments upon his statement. 'If, as in Crofton's case, none of the rules, so far as he knew, was exceeded this makes the situation all the grimmer ... Some of the young men about whom I write went in there very young and face an undefined life sentence'. The enclosed statement outlines the conditions endured by James Crofton and other prisoners. 'I was deprived of any means of communicating, by letter or otherwise, with my wife and five children. One of my children died while I was in prison ... Joe Callaghan was taken from his cell and brought to the underground punishment cell'.
