Description:

Copy letter, no date [1930?], unsigned, to the Secretary of the Executive Council, from a female temporary clerk in the Paymaster General's Office [Miss Potter]. From 1908-1921 she was employed as a lady clerk in Guinness Brewery. She was forced to resign ostensibly due to ill health `but in reality due to my position being made intolerable owing to the feeling against me caused by the association of my brothers with the National Movement in this country and the natural sympathy of myself with the movement'. On leaving Guinness's she was employed as Secretary of the Dublin Relief Committee of the Irish White Cross. She asks for establishment in the Civil Service on the grounds of previous national service, stating: `We have an undeniable claim on the country and I am not asking for appointment to any position for which I am not fully qualified'.
