The report relates to pay scales for certain grades in the Department of Posts and Telegraphs. An Appendix attached to the memorandum outlines revised and proposed pay scales for a variety of grades within the Department. 'Post Office Clerk, Grade A (Female); Post Office Clerk, Grade B (Female); Telephonist (Female) and Cleaner (Female)'.

Memorandum from the Department of Finance for the Government, 19 May 1961, relating to the salaries of certain clerical grades within the Civil Service. 'The Minister wishes to bring to the attention of the Government that he has recently settled at conciliation a claim for an increase in the pay of clerical officers at an extra annual cost of £119,000. No added pay is involved as regards the first six years of service but thereafter the additions range in the case of married men from £6.5 a year to £99.8 and in the case of unmarried men and women from £3.9 to £75.6 a year'.

The present and recommended salary scales are outlined as follows: 'woman recommended salary scale £1040 to £1485 and man recommended salary scale £1300 to £1725'.

Letter from JP Lynch, Association of Inspectors of Taxes, Dublin, to the Taoiseach, Sean Lemass, 4 October 1961, enclosing a memorial requesting an increase to their salary scales. 'After serious deliberation we, the undersigned Inspectors of Taxes, take the extraordinary step of asking you as Head of the Government to intervene so that our rights may receive just consideration'. Sheila G Young and Anne M O'Sullivan were amongst the signatories of the memorial.

'The newspapers of Friday 3 November carried accounts of dissatisfaction on the part of younger members of the Gardai and of attempts made by them to hold meetings at the stations'. An Appendix attached to the memorandum outlines pay scales for both male and female members of the Force. 'On appointment and during training: males 175/ per week and females 152/6 per week'.
