She outlines the manner in which the campaign has progressed and encloses two copy letters which she received from Aer Lingus and Bord Fáilte. 'Some are considering the idea, but the replies from Mr Dempsey [Aer Lingus] and Mr O'Driscoll [Bord Fáilte] were disappointing'.

Letter from Leslie Bean T de Barra, Chairman, Irish Red Cross Society, Dublin, to the Taoiseach, Sean Lemass, 13 February 1962, thanking him for his encouraging note in relation to the 'Freedom from Hunger' campaign. She encloses a letter which was received by Miss MB Murphy, Assistant General Secretary, from R O'Farachain, Controller of Programmes, Radio Éireann, in response to her request to broadcast an additional appeal on the station. Bean T de Barra asks the Taoiseach to persuade the Controller to broadcast an extra appeal. 'As this is a National matter, perhaps you would use some of your well known generous persuasion to have our request granted'.

Copy letter from the Taoiseach, Sean F Lemass, to M Hillard, Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, 15 February 1962, relating to the 'Freedom from Hunger' appeal which is being organised in Ireland by the Red Cross Society. The Taoiseach asks the Minister if it would be possible to incorporate references to the appeal into televised programmes. 'Mrs Tom Barry, Chairman of the Red Cross, has however informed me that she is experiencing some difficulty in arousing enthusiasm for this campaign to an extent that would get factory collections and similar activities going properly'.

Barry states that this may not be to the liking of Mrs Barry, Chairman, Irish Red Cross Society, the group responsible for 'Freedom for Hunger' campaign in Ireland.
