Memorandum from the Department of Education for the Government, 7 April 1962, relating to the proposed establishment of a National Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation [UNESCO]. It states that the functions of the Commission will be to advise the Minister for Education and to co-operate in the implementation of the programme of UNESCO in Ireland. An appendix attached to the memorandum includes a list of persons proposed for appointment as members of the Commission. The following women are included on the list: Professor M Ni Eimhigh, Professor of Ancient Classics, University College, Galway and Miss ME O'Carroll, Headmistress, Crumlin Vocational College, Dublin. |
