Memorandum from GP Campbell, Chief Inspector, 28 September 1962, concerning land resettlement policy. Section 4 of the document highlights the need for competent young farmers. 'The emphasis will be very much in favour of the progressive farmer (especially married men with young families) and against the obviously incompetent farmer or elderly applicant, especially if unmarried of childless. The fitness of the applicant's wife to co-operate in making the allotment a success will be taken into account'.

The letter outlines her case in detail. 'She is seeking damages in respect of injuries and damage incurred during the War of Independence and acquisition by the Dairy Disposal Company Limited of a creamery in 1928 ... Memorandum from the Department of External Affairs for the Government, 30 September 1959, relating to Ireland's accession to the Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, Geneva. The terms of the convention are outlined in detail, for example, 'it provides for a minimum age of consent in marriage, and the free expression of consent by both parties before a registering officer'. A copy of the convention is attached to the memorandum. Article 1 states that the Countries that have signed up to the convention are to seek the abolition of certain institutions and practices. These include the inheritance of a woman on the death of her husband.
