Telegram from EA Beatty and AM MacNeill, Irish National Campaign against the Export of Horses for Slaughter, to the Taoiseach, Sean Lemass, 21 February 1963, congratulating him on the measures taken by his Government in relation to the live export of horses. 'Horse lovers in this country, Great Britain and abroad acclaimed with great joy the wonderful step taken by your Government in November 1961 and you may be assured that all horse lovers will again greet with happiness and thankfulness this new humane step'.

The article refers to the Government's decision to impose a ban on the export for slaughter of all horses over four years old. We are also very grateful to the Government for bringing in their latest regulations'.

Letter from Mrs A MacNeill, Chairman, Irish Horse Abattoir Investment Company, Straffan, County Kildare, to the Taoiseach, Sean Lemass, 18 November 1963, concerning the live export of horses from Ireland. She asks him to ensure that the Irish working horses for export are of a proper age limit. She encloses a copy letter on the subject which she sent to the Minister for Agriculture, Mr P Smith. 'If the good name which Ireland enjoys for the breeding of it's horses of all types is to be maintained then we hold that a much tighter, and much more strict examination be given to these horses'.
