Newsclipping from the 'Irish Independent', 6 June 1963, containing an article entitled 'To write on politics'. The article refers to Mrs Mary C Bromage, the American author of 'de Valera and the March of a Nation'. It states that she is in Dublin collecting material for a work on Irish political nationalism since the start of the century. 'Mrs Bromage, who teaches writing in the School of Business Administration at Michigan University, received a university grant to carry out research in Ireland throughout this month. Her work will be circulated among political and historical students in the US and will not be for sale'.

The article refers to an address which was given by the Taoiseach, Mr Lemass, at the premiere of a film entitled 'Leading the Way'. The Esso company, who made the film, also made presentations to several farmers and housewives. Mrs J O'Connor, from Tipperary was amongst those who received presentations.

Newsclipping from the 'Irish Press', 9 March 1963, containing an article entitled ''Stimulating film on Irish agriculture from Esso'. The article refers to the production of a documentary film on Irish farming by the Esso company. The film focuses on five farmers and one housewife. 'Mrs John O'Connor is a farmer's wife from Cahir, County Tipperary. She has six children the eldest of whom is ten. She comes from Ashbourne, County Meath, but moved into the 90 acre farm at Cahir with her husband five years ago. In the little free time she can spare from looking after her family she reads, listens to music and enjoys the occasional dance'.

Minutes of a meeting of an Inter-departmental Advisory Committee on Publicity Abroad, 21 March 1962. Amongst other topics, the meeting referred to discussions which took place between the Committee and Miss Maire Ni Chuirc, Films of Ireland Limited, Bray, County Wicklow. 'The Chairman said that Miss Ni Chuirc had called on him ... to request that Films of Ireland Limited be given an opportunity to quote for the making of any films required by the Department of External Affairs'. It also refers to another representative of the company, Mrs Fancey.

Labour Court, Sixteenth Annual Report for the year 1962. The following matters are dealt with within the report: wage trends, trade disputes, registered employment agreements and Joint Labour Committees. An appendix attached to the report lists the recommendations which were issued by the Committee during the period under review. Recommendations were made in relation to the wages of female workers in the following companies: Interior and Structural Cleaners (Ireland) Limited; Coras Iompair Éireann [CIE]; Haughtons Limited, Cork and Mental Hospital Authorities. The members of several Joint Labour Committee are listed, for example, 'Mrs MM Buckley, aerated waters and wholesale bottling; Mrs F Hackett, brush and broom; Dr Angela Russell and Miss J Murray, button making; Miss N Nolan, general waste materials reclamation; Dr Annie G Keelan and Miss B Jevons, messengers; Miss K Phelan, packing; Miss K McDowell and Miss M Moran, paper box making; Miss Ita Moore, shirt-making; Mrs D McCullough, sugar confectionery committee; Miss E Lynch, tailoring committee and Mrs B Doherty, tobacco'.

Pamphlet entitled 'Guide to the Social Services', Tenth Edition, 1959. Amongst others, the following services are outlined within the report: widows' contributory pensions; maternity services; milk for mothers and children scheme; child welfare services and private housing grants. 'In 1941, in response to suggestions from a number of Parish Councils and other societies and individuals, this Guide to the Social Services was compiled and published. The object was to give, in a form easily understood, information as to the various State and other services which benefited either individuals or groups. A brief description of each scheme is given and rates and terms are outlined. Pages 35 to 37 outline maternity services.

Amongst others, the Guide gives a brief overview of the following services: widows' pensions; maternity benefit; marriage benefit; child welfare services and adoption regulations. Maternity and child welfare services are referred to on pages 40 to 42. 'An eligible patient who wishes to have her baby at home is entitled to obtain certain obstetrical requisites free of charge… The hospital services for maternity cases include all necessary medical, including specialist, and nursing care as an in-patient'.
