Letter from the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Sean Moore, to the Taoiseach, Sean Lemass, 18 December 1963, regarding the provision of a memorial to the late President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. 'My own personal suggestion is that a memorial should take the form of a hospital or home for mentally handicapped children'. He encloses a number of suggestions which he received in relation to the matter. Mrs Marie MacSharry, Terenure, Dublin suggested the establishment of a fund for the mentally handicapped. Eileen MacCarvill, Fitzwilliam Square, Dublin, suggested the renaming of one of Dublin's principal streets. Ms Coyle, Stillorgan, County Dublin, proposed that a house should be built for elderly people. |
