Description:

Transcript of a speech given by the Taoiseach, Mr J Lynch, at the Texaco Sport Stars Banquet, Dublin, 29 January 1970. Amongst other topics he praises the manner in which Iris Kellett recovered from a serious injury. 'If I was asked to name one amongst them to illustrate the kind of spirit I refer to I could find no better example than Irish Kellett. Everyone thought and indeed accepted that the serious and crippling injury she suffered some years ago had ended an already illustrious career. But Iris had other thoughts and she came back last year to win the greatest prize that Europe had to offer a horsewoman'.
