'She has filled that post with such distinction since 1950 and has proved herself one of the great women of this generation, a leader and an organiser of outstanding qualities'.

Newsclipping from the 'Irish Press', 8 September 1964, containing an article entitled 'Search for Irish Red Cross HQ is over'. The article refers to a speech which was made by the Taoiseach, Sean Lemass, at a dinner marking the twenty fifth anniversary of the foundation of the Society. The Taoiseach spoke of the work undertaken by the Society and referred to the Government's decision to offer the group a suitable headquarters. He also praised the Society's Chairman, Leslie Bean T de Barra. 'You have indeed been most fortunate to have the services of such a charming and able personality'. Mrs de Barra spoke on the Society's plan to extend its activities in Ireland and the need for training in first aid techniques.
