Circular from the Department of Finance, HP Boland, 7 March 1925, on the subject of staff overtime. `… Temporary Clerks employed on the basis of an attendance of forty-four hours per week and Temporary Clerks (Men) Grades I and II and (Women) Grade I, are not eligible for additional payment for any extra hours of duty which they may be required to perform'.

Circular from the Ministry of Finance to all Departments. The ministry is to be notified `of any case in your Department or any of its subsidiary Departments in which a pension or a gratuity is payable from Saorstat Funds to the widow of a retired or disbanded member of the Royal Irish Constabulary in respect of any service her husband may have had after retirement from the Constabulary in any police force, or in any office remunerated out of moneys provided by the Oireachtas or which is a public office within the meaning of the Superannuation Act, 1892'.

A copy of the return made by the President's Office is in the file, 16 April 1925, and includes details of, among others, Miss Gilroy, Shorthand typist, age 26, with 3 years and 2 months of temporary service, who is able to speak and read Irish and who has a conversation and reading practice certificate. Details of other female staff in the Department are given.

Memorandum to O Hegarty, from HP Boland, Department of Finance, 12 June 1925, relating to the candidature of civil servants for membership of local bodies which is not `desirable in the interests of the Government Service'. Any member of the civil service who intends to become a candidate must resign their position. A handwritten list of names is added to the end of this memorandum and includes female names.

The order of discharge is prioritised as follows: `(a) Persons not wholly dependent on their earnings; (in particular married women). (b) Unmarried men and women; ( c) Other officers selected so far as possible in such order as to inflict a minimum of hardship on those dependent on their earnings'.
