Record 541 from 'Women in 20th-century Ireland – 1922-1966: sources from the Department of the Taoiseach database'
Description:

Copy letter to the Secretary, Department of Education, from Thomas McGreevy, National Gallery of Ireland, 12 June 1952. The Board of Governors and Guardians considered the question of where to place Evie Hone's window entitled `Four Green Fields' and they regretfully decided that `as what is needed at the National Gallery is a maximum of light and as the effect of such a window would be to subdue the light - however beautifully - the display of the window in the National Gallery would militate against the Gallery's main function and could not therefore be approved. He suggests other buildings in which the window might be displayed, for example, Government Buildings, the National Museum and Dublin Castle.
