Description:

Letter to Father Quinlan from the Taoiseach returning two letters he sent to him, 12 October 1950. The first is a letter from Mrs Culligan and one from Miss Mary T Kavanagh [the latter is not in the file] together with a copy of a letter sent by him to Mrs Culligan. An extract from the letter from Mrs Culligan to `Dearest Sister' [Miss Kavanagh?] is in the file, asking her to go and see the Irish Prime Minister and tell him that after her death the Irish Government will receive at least £12,000. `I had no one to send as a messenger from me and my husband and though Mr. de Valera wrote to me, no one made an endeavour to see me or to communicate with me. There was nothing like it 10 years ago but I have stinted myself until I have brought it up to £12,000'.

Record 568 from 'Women in 20th-century Ireland – 1922-1966: sources from the Department of the Taoiseach database'
Description:

Newsclipping from the `Irish Independent', 11 February 1950, `Tatler's Leader Page Parade'. This gives details of the foundation of the Infantile Paralysis Fellowship (Ireland). `The story really began before Christmas. Councillor Potter of Dun Laoghaire, Chairman of the new Fellowship, and Mrs Eileen O Farrell, decided that something must be done for the rehabilitation of those who suffer from Polio. So they wrote a letter to this effect to every newspaper in Ireland, every newspaper big and small - which was no small task. Replies began to pour in by every post. So great was the response that they began to realise that they had undertaken a task even greater than they had anticipated. Out of that realisation was born the Infantile Paralysis Fellowship of Ireland, whose Committee, though so briefly formed, met for the third time this week'.
