DáilÉireann, Parliamentary Debates, Official Report, relating to the nomination of members of the Government. The opening pages give the names of those who were returned to serve in the Dail. Five women are included on the list. 'Dublin North Central, Maureen O'Carroll; Dublin South Central, Celia Lynch; South Kerry, Honor Mary Crowley; North Tipperary, Mary Bridget Ryan; Sligo-Leitrim, Mary Reynolds'. The session also debated the nomination of Taoiseach. Mr Lemass, Minister for Industry and Commerce, nominated Eamon de Valera, and Risteard Ua Maolchatha nominated John A Costello. A debate took place as to the merits of both candidates. JA Costello was elected by seventy-nine votes to sixty-six. Maureen O'Carroll and Mary Reynolds voted in favour of John A Costello. Honor M Crowley, Celia Lynch and Mary B Ryan voted against his nomination. |
