Report to the Economic Cooperation Administration, Washington, DC, by the Irish Hotels Delegation, 1 December 1950. Amongst the members of the delegation are Miss Hilda Huggard, Managing Director, Lake Hotel, Killarney, County Kerry, and Miss Honora Hayes, Proprietor, Ardhu House Hotel, Limerick. `The members of this Group were invited by the Irish Government to visit America under the auspices of the Technical Assistance Branch of the Economic Cooperation Administration at Washington, with the object of studying American techniques in the Hotel and Catering industry and to examine tourist activities generally. On our return to Ireland, a report will be prepared for submission to our own Government in order that a better understanding will be formed of the habits, customs and expectations of the American traveller. In this survey, it is hoped to incorporate recommendations which may assist the Tourist Industry at home in the reception of the American visitors in Ireland'.

For example, they recommend the registration and grading of all establishments, the improvement of roads, and adequate funds to be made available for advertising and publicity.

Newsclipping from the `Irish Press', `Housewives Urged to Buy Irish Goods', 7 January 1952. At the Jubilee Dinner of the Fianna Fail South Kerry Comhairle Ceanntair, Mr Jack Lynch, Parliamentary Secretary to the Government, said that all possible steps had been taken to protect Irish trade interests. `Housewives in particular, could play a most important part if, when purchasing their requirements, they insisted on getting the Irish made article. If they could not get it in one shop, they should go to the shopkeeper who stocked Irish goods'.
