Description:

`Summary of views on the disbursement of the Funds of the Sinn Fein Organisation'. For example, the Finance Officer in the Department of Defence `refers to a scheme drawn up in 1936 for the establishment of the National Veterans Benevolent Funds which provided for the assistance of destitute members or their dependants of the following Organisations: (a) Oglaigh na hÉireann (Irish Republican Army), (b) The Irish Volunteers, (c) The Irish Citizen Army, (d) Fianna Éireann, (e) The Hibernian Rifles, (f) Cumann na mBan, (g) the National Army, (h) The Defence Forces (including the Reserve)'. In the case of categories a-f the only members eligible were those who were members between 1 April 1922 and 30 September 1924. However, the Parliamentary Secretary `considers that it would be inadvisable to utilise the money as a benevolent fund owing to the tendency to develop jealousies, ill-feeling and disappointment'.
